This year, I wised up and let Hank do all the legwork. In years past, I’ve done all the tree trimming, Christmas card decorating, not to mention…cooking and cleaning on top of nursing and whatnot. Last year, I took the tree down, put it on top of the car, put, nine-month-old Jude in the car seat, and took it to Whole Foods to be recycled – after taking all of the lights and ornaments off (while Hank slept). While the kids and I strung popcorn and hung ornaments last year, I remember thinking, wow, he’s just sitting over there with his feet up sippin’ his beer, and I got mad, but didn’t know what to do.
So, this year, I layed back and watched him struggle. Uh…are the ornaments all in this box? Should I use these lights? Do they look okay or should I move them? Staying back and watching has been my philosophy more and more. He’s been so helpful ever since he caught on and I explained my new philosophy. He’s shopped for, wrapped, and labled almost every gift.
When I was sick earlier this week, and he did the grocery shopping with Jude in tow, and after doing all that and going to he playground, he was TUCKERED OUT. He sat down with a big sigh and asked, “when does Hank get home to help?”
Today, he even shampooed the carpet without having to be asked!
I’m getting better at this mommy/wife business.
I’ve got plenty more years to go!
